FAQs

What if more than one person wants to remember the same individual?

Each ribbon represents a memory and so it's perfectly likely that more than one person will want to remember an individual.

What if I want to add a photo?

It's possible to add a photo, simply click on the 'browse' button, undernearth 'upload an image' at the bottom of the page (The following image formats are supported jpeg, gif and png). Please bear in mind the wishes of the individual's friends and family in case this may be something which might cause upset or impact on that persons's privacy. See our privacy policy for more details.

Does it cost anything to add a ribbon to the wall?

No. We want this national memorial to be accessible to all which is why it is free of charge to add a ribbon to the wall. We'd be very grateful if you would like to make a donation which would help us to offer support to the thousands of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Can I add a ribbon anonymously?

Due to issues around privacy we do ask that you register to add a ribbon to the wall. However, if you would not like to be publicly identified that's absolutely fine. Please feel free to enter 'anonymous' into the section which asks for your name. As long as you enter a valid email address (which won't be visible) your entry will be anonymous. Please also feel free to tick the box 'I do not wish my message to be viewed publicly'if you would prefer to keep your message private.

Can I add a ribbon for multiple people?

Of course, once you are logged in you can add as many ribbons, messages and photos as you would like.

I have seen a message which I think is offensive/inappropriate, how can I get this removed?

We are constantly monitoring this website to make sure that no inappropriate content is posted. Please help us do this by emailing remember17000@tht.org.uk if you see any comments which you find offensive and we can take the appropriate course of action.

Why do I need to register?

We obviously want people to be able to add their tributes simply. However, we added this registration process to avoid any potential misuse of this site in order to protect both the 17,000 people we have lost and their friends, families and loved ones who wish to take part in the memorial.

I have added my ribbon but can't see it on the wall.

Each time you add a ribbon, whether it's when you've just registered or when you've logged in, an email will be sent to the email address you used to register. You will need to click on the link within the email in order for the ribbon to then be added to the wall. Once you do this the ribbon should appear straight away. If it doesn't please call 020 7812 1666 and we'll do our best to help.

I want to add my tribute to the book of remembrance.

As it's our 25th anniversary if you would like to make a donation of £25 or more we will be happy to add your tribute message into a book of remembrance which will be held at our offices in London.
If you click on the link to the 'Add entry to book of remembrance' button it will lead you directly to the donation page and we will ensure that your entry is made in the book as it reads on your ribbon.

How can I find a ribbon I've already added to view it on the wall?

Use the search function which can be accessed via either the homepage or the wall of ribbons page. Type in the intial of the individual you are looking for and you should be able to find it. If you have any problems please call 020 7812 1666 and we will be happy to help.

How do I make a donation?

Any donations would be very much appreciated and would help us to provide support to the growing numbers of people living with HIV.

Your support could help;
  • £8 could pay for travel costs for a THT community support volunteer to accompany somone living with HIV, who hasn't been able to tell friends or family about their HIV status, to a hospital appointment and provide much needed moral support.
  • £65 could pay for a counselling session who is newly diagnosed.
  • £167 could help to keep our THT Direct helpline open to provide emotional support and guidance to people
